A guide to summer fun has been produced to give families the lowdown on things to do in Aldershot and Farnborough during the school holidays.

The guide, produced by Rushmoor Borough Council, contains information on holiday play schemes as well as low cost and free things to do for young people aged three to 19 from sports to art, craft, drama and music.

Among the sporting activities featured in the guide are the one-day activity ski camps at Alpine Snowsports in Aldershot for £30, which includes skiing, donutting and snowboarding.

Already proving popular are the Soccer @ Six weekly football coaching sessions held in selected parks across Aldershot and Farnborough until August 29. Sessions cost £3 and are run by the Aldershot Town Football club Community Trust for boys and girls of any skill level from five to 14.

Young people aged 16 and under can also enjoy swimming at Farnborough Leisure Centre and Aldershot Pools (indoor) for £1 from July 24 until September 1.

For children who like arts and craft or drama and music, there are a host of workshops at the Princes Hall in Aldershot over the holidays, including opportunities to learn a play or dance in a day and even the chance to find out what it’s like to work backstage at the theatre at a technical workshop.

There is also willow weaving, pottery, music and more at the West End Centre’s Summer Westival from August 1 to 3.

Councillor Sue Carter, cabinet member for leisure and youth, said: “This free guide is guaranteed to deal with summer holiday cries of ‘I’m bored’.

"Farnborough and Aldershot have some wonderful leisure facilities – there aren’t many places where you can be at a beach one day (the lido) and on a mountain (Alpine Snowsports) the next.”

The Wellington Centre also has a series of activities going on this summer, including Punch and Judy shows from midday-2pm and free puppet-making from 11am-1pm in the lower mall on July 31.

A free loom band workshop on the upper mall will take place on August 5 with biscuit-making on August 7, both from 11am-1pm.

Other activities are a toddlers' story time session on August 12 and 27, Teddy Bear's Picnic on August 14, uniform and rifle displays from Aldershot Military Museum on August 20, a Showshack Theatre School showcase on August 30 and face-painting on various days.

The guide can be picked up for free from the council offices in Farnborough Road, Farnborough.
