Tucked away in a 16th century building on the outskirts of Farnham, one award-winning restaurant has been serving up the finest curries in town for more than 10 years.

Bengal Lounge, in Wrecclesham, prides itself on its authentic Bangladeshi dishes, diverse vegetarian menu, long wine list and historic atmosphere.

Owner Mohammed Islam, better known as Ashiq to regular customers, thinks his restaurant has what it takes to add another award to the list.

He said: "We opened in April 2006 and serve mainly Bangladeshi dishes.

"Our little building is listed and dates back to the 16th century, so it has lots of character but a modern interior.

"My restaurant is different because we are on the outskirts of the town centre.

"It is quiet and peaceful and we have parking facilities - I know customers can find it difficult finding parking in the town centre."

"We always prepare our dishes with fresh ingredients, herbs and spices"

Bengal Lounge has received the British Curry Award not once but four times, and it has also been crowned the winner of the Asian Curry Award.

Mr Islam said: "We always prepare our dishes with fresh ingredients, herbs and spices, exactly like they do back at home.

"We always serve a good starter, we have a lovely chicken chili dish, a variety of dhals and a lamb coconut fry - these are our most popular dishes.

"We use the leanest meat, freshest vegetables and finest spices around the world"

"Our chicken buna, fish maas biran, lamb fresh fry goes down well too and we also offer a lot of vegetarian dishes, including jalfrezis and paneer."

According to Bengal Lounge's restaurant, the fresh dishes are cooked by "specialist chefs" who use the "leanest meat, freshest vegetables and finest spices around the world".

Every Sunday you can enjoy a three course dinner for only £13 per person

Every Sunday the restaurant offers a special meal deal where customers can enjoy three courses, including vegetables, sides and naan bread, for just £13.

What's more, you can receive a 10% discount if you spend more than £18.

Bengal Lounge also offers a long wine list, including customer favourites merlot and pinot grigio.

If wine isn't your thing you can enjoy your curry with a cold pint of Cobra, Kingfisher or Mongoose instead.

Mr Islam also owns a larger restaurant in Farnham's town centre, Mahaan.

He said: "This restaurant is bigger which is more ideal for larger parties, whereas Bengal Lounge is more cosy and quiet - though it can cater for up to 100 people.

"We also have a home catering service for parties and we have catered for a wedding before."

There is no wonder the hidden gem has become a favourite among local curry lovers.

Mr Islam said: "We have regular customers who give us positive feedback and quite a few familiar customers who pop in and we have a chat with them, they always say hello.

"Fridays and Saturdays are our busiest days and you have to book in advance."

He added: "If you come and visit us, you will be able to experience it for yourself."
