The International Concert Series will be coming to town for The Anvil next month
Every autumn there is a feast of great music to enjoy at The Anvil, Basingstoke and this coming season will be not different with the 2013/14 International Concert Series just a month away.
As well as the 15 concerts in the main series, there are two extra concerts showcasing different areas of repertoire. From Baroque masterpieces to works just one year old, all will sound at their best in the magnificent acoustic of The Anvil. If you’ve never heard the power of a symphony orchestra at full throttle, come to The Anvil and hear it at its best.
The season begins on Saturday 28 September when the Philharmonia Orchestra is joined by pianist Piotr Anderszewski under the baton of Esa-Pekka Salonen. The programme includes Beethoven’s late overture Namensfeier, Schumann’s Piano Concerto and Berlioz’s extravagant Symphonie Fantastique.
Royal Philharmonic Society award-winning Kirill Karabits conducts the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra on 3 October as they perform Prokofiev’s Sinfonia Concertante and Shostakovich’s powerful and dramatic Tenth Symphony.
The Anvil’s new Orchestra in Association, the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, performs its first concert of the season on 3 December. The programme includes Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto, Mozart’s famous Horn Concerto no 4 and two pieces by Beethoven. Margaret Faultless leads the orchestra with Isabelle Faust on violin and Roger Montgomery on horn.
Another highlight of the season includes the Mahler Chamber Orchestra on the 23 November with director and pianist Leif Ove Andsnes who continues his ongoing Beethoven Journey series of concerts and recordings.
