THE West End Centre in Aldershot will be running a series of entertaining events in the bar for those of you wishing to enjoy those warm summer evenings while the theatre undergoes a facelift.

The bar will host comedy nights, DJ nights, quizzes and a free beach party.

One of the most exciting nights promises to be the Hecklers Comedy Club on July 20 with rising stars Nina Conti and Daniel Kitson.

Nina is fast gaining a good reputation on the comedy circuit, with many television appearances to her name.

She performs a ventriloquist act with a stuffed monkey which has won her wide critical acclaim for some fantastic performances.

She won the BBC New Comedy Award in 2002 and appeared at the 2003 Edinburgh Festival with Micky Flanagan.

Daniel appeared at the West End Centre last season and brought the house down with his smutty gags and hilarious jokes.

He has a refreshingly different outlook on life and a rather geeky dress sense.

Quiz nights begin on June 24 at 8.30pm, with questions on a wide range of subjects including geography, sport, art and films.

The eliminator rounds will take place on July 1 and 8, with the winning teams from those heats going on to the grand final on July 15.

"We've some fabulous prizes available," said West End Centre programme director Barney Jeavons. "We are especially pleased to welcome back James Barry, our former director, as special quizmaster."

Special DJ nights will be held on Thursdays from June 26, featuring mixes of jazz, funky house, hip-hop and other styles.

There will be an acoustic night on July 9 and local promoters Cherry Soda will run ‘unplugged' nights on June 21 and July 18.

Regardless of the weather the bar will be filled with sunshine on July 19 for a free beach party, with prizes for the best fancy dress.
