Aircraft roar could be accompanied by thunderstorms

Farnborough Air Show displays unlikely to be affected as thunderstorms are predicted for Saturday, following record temperatures on Friday

Visitors to the Farnborough Air Show on Saturday could get caught in thunderstorms following record 2014 temperatures predicted to hit the area on Friday, the Met Office has warned.

Hot, humid air pushed up from Spain is likely to nudge the temperature up to 27C on Friday, but with that warm weather comes the risk of thunderstorms and heavy showers.

Those visiting the air show on Saturday may well need to pack umbrellas and waterproofs and be prepared for the eventuality that some of the aircraft may have parts of their display obscured by cloud.

A Farnborough Air Show spokesperson said the last show in 2012 had suffered appalling weather, but the aircraft displays were not particularly affected.

The Met Office has predicted things will warm up through the week with the hottest temperatures of the year so far in north-east Hampshire forecast for Friday.

However, the increasingly warm temperatures are likely to mean some heavy rain will follow.

A Met Office spokesman said Farnborough was unlikely to see temperatures as high as in London, which could reach a sizzling 35C.

They said: "Warm air is moving in on Friday and Saturday so the temperatures are increasing for most people.

"In Farnborough we are probably looking at 27C on Friday, maybe a bit higher.

"But it will be bringing with it the possibility of some heavy rain and thunderstorms.

"There is certainly a risk of some rain coming through with the warmer weather, and that's looking likely on Saturday, but it may manage to miss it.

"There will be fresh air following it, so next week will be a bit fresher."
